Meet one of our Testamentary Trust Will clients: actor and theatre producer David Crann, who has been a positive contributor to the cultural scene of Perth, Australia, over many decades. It is our great honour to work with David to help him establish a good legal foundation for his legacy by preparing a Testamentary Trust Will and also a charitable trust. Through these legal arrangements, he will provide ongoing support for two community organisations that are dear to his heart and that he has been involved with for decades, namely the Patch Theatre Inc. and the Victoria Park Public Library Inc. A person’s Will is very important. It is a way for them to ensure that the assets they have gathered over the course of their lifetime are not wasted after they pass on, but are put to good use. We enjoy working with our Will clients, like David, to assist them to do this. Generosity is a great virtue, Nobody exemplifies this better than our friend and client, David Crann.
Did you know that a company in Germany makes a machine that dispenses gas bottles for barbecues? Geoff Sedgwick of Unattended Sales Australia does, and not only that, if you would like one or maybe even a few of those (or any other kind of dispensing machine) installed at your shop or office, he can organise that for you. Meet the Unattended Sales King of Perth! We have been very pleased to work with Geoff, an experienced international businessman, to develop his standard document for placing automated dispensing machines at his clients’ premises. The final document was an excellent example of cooperation between Geoff, an expert in his area of business, and us, commercial lawyers, where each side contributed its expertise and knowledge to create a specialised document adapted to the unique circumstances that face Geoff and his machines.
Geoff has these kind words to say about us:
As a start-up with a fairly unique business model, I needed to engage a commercial law firm that would be prepared to understand the complexities of the Operating Lease I required and provide the requisite advice in areas that are not necessarily common to standard operating leases – if such things exist; I was also concerned that each time I engaged with the firm in these somewhat difficult to articulate areas, I would incur fees that would make the exercise too costly to achieve without some compromise in the final document.
I can say without hesitation, that James Irving has achieved, at a very acceptable cost, my exact goals in the document and that I am totally impressed with his application to the task of understanding my business and drawing of a document that provides the level of security commensurate with my business needs.
Oren Barak (L) and Adi Barak (R) are a hard working, brilliant brother-sister team who have created a great start-up company, ROOGENIC, that began with just the two of them, and now hires a number of people. They sell their tea drinks made with blends of native Australian ingredients. They began by selling the drinks from a stall in the famous Fremantle Markets in Perth, Western Australia, and are now moving into bottling the drinks and selling them through retail outlets. They are now negotiating to supply their unique drinks to European distributors.
On Saturdays, when the Markets hit their peak, Adi and Oren have eleven employees working their stall, serving tea to customers. When Adi and Oren needed a lawyer to prepare an NDA so they could share their secret recipes with bottling contractors, they chose Irving Law to assist them. We enjoyed working with Roogenic on that document, and we look forward to supporting them in future with legal advice and documents.
One very special thing that Roogenic has done is that they have established special trading relationships with indigenous communities in remote areas of Western Australia, who collect the native plants that give the Roogenic teas their special heath-boosting characteristics. These are added to other organic ingredients grown by small farmers. Adi and Oren don’t just make great teas from organic ingredients (we know, we drank some), they are great people who are doing their part to bring economic benefits to those Australian indigenous communities, so often marginalised by mainstream Australia, and facilitate those communities sharing their ancient knowledge of the plants of Australia with the world.
We are very pleased to be a part of the fantastic Roogenic success story, and wish Oren and Adi, their employees, and their farmer and indigenous collaborators all the best as their business grows.
